Shattered Excerpt:  Meet Grayson

"...I'm not a filler, Dallis.  I'm taking my rightful spot."  He stopped and held my cheek in his hand.  "Don't try to remove me because I won't go easily.  I won't give in to those wicked thoughts swirling around in the back your mind.  You deserve happiness, and dammit, I'm going to give it to you."

Leaning down, I took Grayson's bottom lip in my mouth and sucked gently.  His hands latched onto my hair as his lips quickly overtook my own.  The feeling of love encompassed us both as we lay thrashing our mouths into one another with a new found level of passion that seemed to build from the second Grayson had laid the journal down.

I fixed my body to lie flat against his as I tightened my grip on his beautiful locks.  Our chests moved in succession, rising and falling against one another, cementing the fact that we were, in fact, becoming one.  No traces of apprehension could be felt as the realization that I had unmistakably allowed him in hit me.  Grayson had successfully broken through the fortress that I had built around my heart, in hopes of avoiding any more unnecessary pain.

"I need your ass in my bed," Grayson said as he pulled away, panting with lust in his eyes.

I stood and he quickly wrapped his arms around me.  "I'm yours.  Do as you like."

A devious gleam went off in his eye as he wrapped his arms tighter around me and rushed us off to his bedroom.

When it rains it pours….

Hard-nosed and self-reliant Dallis O'Brien has had her fair share of devastation. Her father's tragic accident sparked what seemed like a domino effect of heartbreak and loss. Unable to shake the fear of enduring any more pain, she builds walls around her heart, hoping to heal on her own.

Dallis' road to recovery is disrupted when she meets Grayson Rivera, a tattooed, coffee shop owner who, by appearances alone, isn't her typical match. Stubborn and hesitant to let him in, Dallis finally succumbs to Grayson's persistence, where he challenges her to face her loss while also having the walls of her heart broken down.

With Grayson's assistance, Dallis must decide if she is willing to learn how to be weak in order to be strong.

The walk to my Jeep was quick and quiet.  Grayson's hand never left my back, his fingertips slightly tickling the upper area of my ass.  Against my preconceived thoughts, I didn't attempt to remove it.  When we reached my Jeep, I stopped at the driver side door and turned to him.

"Thanks.  This was…fun," I said, trying to find the right word to describe our night, but feeling like I had come up drastically short.

"I've been waiting for this night for a long time," he responded, then leaned down and placed a very light, yet emotion packed kiss on my lips.  The feel of his succulent lips sent aggressive tingles throughout my body.  His lips were soft, juicy, and lived up to everything I thought they would be.  I could feel my fingers go numb and I briefly wondered why I would be feeling this way over a very chaste kiss.  I pulled away, looking him in the eye.  His eyes exuded passion and I could feel the familiar sparks radiating from his body as he stood there, using his bright blue eyes to stare into mine.

"I don't know that we're ready for this," I replied, trying to put the boundaries back up between us.

He looked at me speculatively, then ran his hands over his hair.  "I know you feel that."

I narrowed my eyes at him, wondering exactly what he was alluding to.

"That spark we've been feeling for weeks now.  It rockets through our bodies whenever we touch.  I know you feel it because I feel it too."

I stood there breathless as he leaned down and kissed me again, only this time, his mouth crashed down on mine, devouring me.  I was hesitant at first, but gradually allowed myself to give back, giving back all of the desire and raw emotion that Grayson was giving to me.  His tongue swirled around with mine, in a slow, sensual manner.  His hands were tucked firmly in my hair, holding on tightly as he guided his tongue, tasting every inch of my mouth.  I slowly allowed myself to fall captive to him, and his warm body pressed against me, pulling us close enough for me to breathe in his manly, spiced scent.  The more I breathed, the more I wanted him.

Chelsea scooted over to my side and the guys spoke, with Mila in tow. Ryan and Chase moved closer to the guys, and I wondered how Chase could stand to be so close to my brother, knowing at any moment, Ryan could lose all composure and deck him.
"Damn, girl. He is fucking hot," Chelsea said, trying to muffle her much too excited voice. "What in the world is wrong with you? He wants you, you should want him back."

"I work with him, Chels."

"And?" she asked, roughly throwing her hands on her hips.

"And, that's bad business practice," Mila interjected.

"Sometimes relationships form in the workplace," Chelsea quickly responded.
I shook my head at her, but took note of her souring expression. As I turned to follow her gaze, I watched Jason stride over in our direction. My stomach clenched as sweat beads formed on my brow. My first instinct was to duck out and go in the opposite direction, but I didn't. For some reason, even with the clench in my stomach, I also felt relief… relief that he hadn't up and moved… relief that the sight of him still made my heart lurch… relief that I was still human and my feelings were genuinely real.

"Hello, Gorgeous," I heard him purr, with that entirely too sweet level of Southern drawl that he often used when speaking to me. I felt his hand glide over my back, and just as he was settling his hand, Damian moved his.
Even though we were standing outside, I fell short of breath. The multitude of faces surrounding me instantly became a blur, as Jason's face was all that I could concentrate on.

My melting emotions betrayed what I wanted to feel. I had always pictured in my mind a perfect scenario where when and if I ever ran into Jason again, I would take my palm to his face, yell all sorts of obscenities at him for not staying away, and then promptly remove myself from his presence. So far, I was 0-3. I couldn't help the fact that over the past few weeks, his incessant displays of affection -- even though they were ignored -- his persistence, and his ability to leave me with a bit of space, had begun to shave off some of my newfound, hardened exterior.

His gloriously, messy brown hair had grown a bit, and the way it flopped all over his head made me smile. He had even grown a bit of facial hair, and the mature look it gave him pulled at my heart as well. As our eyes met, I was once again introduced to the seduction in the gleam of his eyes, those same brown eyes that had seduced me the night I gave in to him in our management class. The slight bit of stubble he had allowed to grow on his face sent tingles to the pads of my fingers, making me ache with a hunger to touch it, but I refrained. The all black ensemble he wore quickly took me back to my birthday party that he'd worked so diligently putting together for me. His pants hung just right on what I knew to be the V at his hips, hidden by his clothing. Every part of my triple beating heart was pushing me to just throw my arms him, and kiss him with the passion that I so desperately wanted to feel from him, but I once again kept those feelings locked away and stood where I was.
